OUT OF BODY

OUT OF BODY

Monika Izing creates photographs of bodily excrements in her series “Out of Body”. Hair, skin, urine, and blood are transformed to show the rituals of living with Lupus, a chronic illness that runs in the DNA of those with the disease. The pattern variations are a way of translating the daily burdens of checking to see if symptoms have worsened or alleviated. Izing has composed pictures at a specific moment in time when these pieces have just departed from the body but have not completely deteriorated. This surreal experience reminds us of how fragile the human life is.
